Everton boss Roberto Martinez has no intention of letting James McCarthy leave the club, amid renewed reports of Manchester City interest.
City, according to widespread national media stories, have turned their interest to McCarthy after being turned down by Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph.
But Martinez says the 24-year-old is, and will remain, one of his midfield lynchpins ahead of a third season at Goodison Park. The Republic of Ireland international also enjoyed success under the Spanish manager at Wigan Athletic.My responsibility is to try to keep bringing competition into the squad. I think what we have got now is a very strong competition for places and we don't want to lose that.
"We are not in a situation at this football club that we have to sell to balance the books. What we want is to be successful and create a winning team.
